A museum about Western Australia. Our people, our places and our role in the world.
Designed by international architect consortium Hassell + OMA, the Museum hosts eight new permanent exhibitions focused around three major themes:
• Being Western Australian: Celebrating the diversity of our people
• Discovering Western Australia: A gateway to our incredible State
• Exploring the World: Investigating WA and its place in the world
Each theme is explored through the Museum's vast research and collections—helping visitors understand a broad range of topics including the formation of the Universe, WA inventions, extinct and newly discovered species, and the State’s diverse communities.
Over 50,000 people have contributed their thoughts to the development of the Museum’s exhibitions and programs. Dedicated community panels have also worked with the Museum for the past five years, focusing on accessibility, inclusion, education, children and young people.
Woven throughout the Museum are the stories and perspectives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, recognising the primary rights of Australia’s first peoples in practicing and expressing their cultural heritage.
This unique ‘people first’ approach is reflected in the name itself, with Boola Bardip meaning 'many stories' in local Nyoongar language.
Outside of exhibitions and programming, visitors will find a retail shop bursting with locally created products, delicious food and beverage offerings, and a rotating schedule of special events.
The Museum is open daily from 9.30am to 5pm.
